Paola Garcia has lived in the United States since she was two years old. She's an American. She doesn't have another home.
But now, thanks to Donald Trump and his hateful rhetoric, she's being made to feel threatened somewhere she should be perfectly safe — her campus.
In an emotional video posted to YouTube, Paola — who is undocumented but protected by DACA — says she is now being harassed by racist students telling her to "back to them dirt floors of your homeland."
It apparently started when a fellow student named Taylor Ragg posted this inciting message on Facebook:
Paola says that started a deluge of messages, including a photo of someone filling out a tip form reporting her to Homeland Security.
Paola tells the Lexington Herald Leader she complained to the school that Ragg was in violation of their anti-discrimination policy, but that President Seamus Carey told her Ragg was just "making a recommendation to his readers" which didn't violate the rules.
When the paper reached out to Ragg for his comment on the matter, he wrote back simply:
"Lexington Herald Leader is Fake News."
Tell us again this has nothing to do with Trump. Go on.
In her video, Garcia asks the public for their help in swaying the opinion of the school to protect her by punishing Ragg.
