K-pop singer Taeyeon surprised her fans on Friday with a special music video for her song “I’m all ears.”
The mellow track was first featured on Taeyeon's Christmas album last month, and the music video marks her first release of the new year. This Christmas – Winter is Coming was released on Dec. 12, and fronted by the titular single “This Christmas.”
The soft, white-washed video shows Taeyeon in a variety of intimate scenes with a love interest, often filmed from his perspective as she plays and dances around in loungewear. Much of "I'm all ears" is filmed as a selfie video, as Taeyeon sings into the camera of a phone.
“I’m all ears” is a swaying, sentimental pop-rock tune featuring the vocalist offering herself up as a shoulder to lean on. “Tell me everything/ Even if it takes all night, that's alright," croons Taeyeon. "[Tell me] so that your cold day can melt through me." Fans have been quick to note that the music video’s release seems timely, as the therapeutic and receptive lyrics of the track come during a period when K-pop fans, and Taeyeon herself, have been struggling to deal with the loss of SHINee’s Jonghyun.
After rising to fame as a member of the iconic Korean girl group Girls' Generation, Taeyeon released her first solo I in 2015 and has rapidly become one of South Korea’s most popular female soloists. This Christmas – Winter is Coming is her third EP. The album appeared at No. 6 on the World Albums chart following its release in December.
