The character, played by Harry Visinoni, will apparently be diagnosed with the disease in "shocking" episodes next month.

Seb Franklin was introduced to Coronation Street viewers as the boyfriend of Faye Windass, played by Ellie Leach.

But now he's set to take centre stage as the ITV soap prepares to tackle a hard-hitting HIV storyline.

In upcoming scenes, Seb – who recently shocked viewers with a 'baby bombshell' – will discover that he has the virus.

Seb will then be met with a mixed reception by his fellow Weatherfield residents as his news travels amongst the cobbles.

According to reports, Coronation Street has been working with HIV charity the Terrence Higgins Trust to ensure the plot is handled correctly.

Speaking to The Sun, a source close to the show revealed that the show hopes to cover the subject in a realistic and tasteful way.

The insider told the publication: "Coronation Street have never been afraid of tackling taboo subjects and this is no different.

"Seb’s storyline isn’t going to see him go on a huge 'journey' and be drawn over months and years but the initial scenes are sure to be shocking."

They continued: "The episodes, which will air next month, will show realistic attitudes both positive and negative to HIV.

"Producers aren't going to sugarcoat it, but they also want to show that life doesn't end with a diagnosis."

A spokesperson for Coronation Street has been contacted by OK! Online.

The storyline will be the first time a major Coronation Street character has been diagnosed with the disease.
