SAMANTHA Womack has admitted to being left "broken" over her exit from EastEnders.
After months of speculation about how Ronnie and Roxie Mitchell would leave Walford, the sisters' lives came to a tragic end when they both ended up drowning in the hotel pool following Ronnie's wedding to Jack Branning.
As the emotional scenes played out, fans were quick to comment on how much they were going to miss Samantha and Rita Simons, who played the role of Roxy.
Having started to receive messages from heartbroken fans, Samantha took to her Twitter page to admit that she wasn't ready to respond to any comments.
"I'm sorry I can't respond to any comments..I'm honestly broken," she wrote.
"An appropriate end to the darkest year ever.@OfficialRita @RealScottMaslen."
Despite feeling sad over her departure, Samantha saw the funny side when she tweeted: "Started my day off at @champneys with a....... swim in the pool!

After retweeting a series of messages from fans and co-stars who praised her over the Mitchell sisters' final episode, Rita echoed Sam's message about not being able to talk about her departure from the BBC soap.
"Thank you all for your lovely tweets.
"I don't really have words right now. But words will come.. in good time #R&R."
Scott Maslen, who plays the role of Jack Branning, also broke his Twitter silence and called the New Year's Day episode "an end of an era."
"End of an era! #ronnieandroxy loved working with @sam_womack and @OfficialRita #EastEnders #sadtimes thanks for all the tweets!," the actor wrote.
Stars including Danny Dyer and Jacqueline Jossa also shared their thoughts on the heartbreaking episode which will continue to unravel when Jack Branning finds out what has happened.
"Two beautifully complex Eastenders Icons. On screen chemistry personified. Nothing but love for ya's #missed. @Sam_Womack @OfficialRita X," Danny, who plays the role of Mick Carter tweeted.
Jacqueline Jossa posted on the social media site: "Wow! @bbceastenders that was just beautiful!
"Toby done an amazing job, @OfficialRita and @Sam_Womack, just incredible! (sic)."
"Holy s**t... #MitchellSisters #EastEnders," came the response from Danny-Boy Hatchard whose character Lee Carter told his dad that he was involved in the robbery that took place in the Queen Vic.
EastEnders returns to BBC One at 8pm.
